CHARLES NICOLET TRAMELAN — VINTAGE GOLD-PLATED CHRONOGRAPH
1940s — Landeron column-wheel movement

Charles Nicolet, a Swiss manufacturer from Tramelan active during the golden age
of Swiss watchmaking. A classic 1940s chronograph, featuring the signature
on the dial and the column-wheel movement that made these calibers
famous for their reliability.

CONSTRUCTION — LET'S BE CLEAR

The case is GOLD-PLATED (laminate), with a stainless steel caseback,
as engraved on the inside: FOND ACIER INOXYDABLE. It is not solid gold.
This was the standard construction for this tier of watches at the time:
the caseback, which is opened for maintenance and subject to more wear,
was made of steel to keep costs down, while the bezel and sides
remained gold-plated.

THE PIECE

Round case, 39 mm in diameter excluding the crown. Two pushers for
starting, stopping, and resetting the chronograph.
Champagne-colored dial, signed CHARLES NICOLET TRAMELAN, with the
inscription ANTIMAGNETIC. 30-minute counter at 12 o'clock, continuous
seconds at 6 o'clock. Triangular indices and an Arabic numeral at 6 o'clock.

MOVEMENT

Landeron column-wheel caliber, manual wind, 17 jewels. Functional
chronograph: starts, stops, and resets to zero properly.

The watch has been checked in our laboratory before being
placed on display.

CONDITION — WE TELL IT LIKE IT IS

Eighty years of history, and it shows: the dial shows some spots of
oxidation typical of its age, the crystal has some superficial marks,
and the case shows normal signs of wear for a plated piece from this era.

The cream-colored leather strap is a non-original replacement in
used condition. If purchased at full price, the strap can be replaced with a new Morellato leather one free of charge. Plexiglass crystal. Sold without the box or original documents.

This is not a restored piece, and it doesn't aim to look like one. It is a true,
functional Nicolet chronograph with its history written all over it.

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE BUYING

On a mechanical chronograph over eighty years old, the precision can
deviate from the original even after a positive check like this one:
this is normal for a vintage watch of this age.

The gold plating, over time and with use, may show more marked areas of
wear on the bezel and lugs: this is part of the nature of the material
and is visible in the photographs.
