Large Vintage 585 Gold and Silver Sun Pendant with Rose-Cut Diamonds Pavé 18g

SUN PENDANT — 585 GOLD AND SILVER — ROSE-CUT DIAMONDS
A substantial piece, pavé setting, 18.2 grams

A sunburst-shaped pendant of impressive size: 54.8 mm in diameter,
66.5 mm in total length including the bail.

CONSTRUCTION

Silver front, back and bail in 585 (14 kt) gold, hallmarked.
This technique is known as "silver-on-gold": it was specifically used for
diamond jewelry because the silver on the front highlights the
whiteness of the stone better than yellow gold, while the gold on the back
prevents the silver from tarnishing skin or clothing.

THE STONES

Rose-cut diamonds: the historic cut that predates the
modern brilliant cut, with low facets and a less uniform appearance,
recognizable and sought after by collectors of antique jewelry.
Set densely, in a pavé style, both on the central disc and along
each of the rays.

Excellent condition as shown in photos.
