Seiko 6139-6012 Bruce Lee Gold Dial Vintage 1972 Automatic Chronograph
SEIKO 6139-6012 "BRUCE LEE" — AUTOMATIC CHRONOGRAPH GOLD DIAL
January 1972 — "Resist" wording — serial number 210598
Seiko 6139 caliber automatic chronograph, one of the first in the world:
Seiko introduced it in May 1969, the same year the Zenith El Primero
and the Heuer-Breitling-Hamilton Calibre 11 debuted.
The nickname "Bruce Lee" applies to the entire 6139-601X family and
stems from a famous historical photograph of the actor wearing the blue
dial version of the same caliber. This example features the gold/champagne
dial, the most elegant variant of the same reference: it belongs to the
same legend, despite not being the dial featured in the original photo —
we state this with such precision because it is the correct thing to do.
THREE COHERENT ELEMENTS
Serial number 210598 dates the watch to January 1972 (first digit is the
year, the second is the month). The dial reads "WATER 70m RESIST":
Seiko transitioned from the "Proof" to "Resist" designation during this
exact period, and the inscription here confirms the dating. The caseback
explicitly states the stainless steel construction.
SPECIFICATIONS
Cushion-shaped steel case, 39 mm in diameter excluding crown — a
compact size compared to bulkier vintage chronographs, it wears well
even today.
Gold/champagne dial with baton indices, 30-minute counter,
chronograph hand, day/date window.
Graduated scale on the outer ring.
Two pushers for starting, stopping, and resetting the chronograph.
Seiko 6139B automatic caliber, 17 jewels.
CONDITION — WE TELL IT LIKE IT IS
Chronograph in working order: it starts, stops, and returns to zero.
The top pusher (which starts and stops the measurement) returns to
position with a slight delay compared to a crisp click — a sign of wear
in the reset mechanism, common for a chronograph over fifty years old,
which does not compromise functionality but must be clearly noted.
The blue leather strap is a non-original replacement. Sold without
box or papers
TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BUY
The top chronograph pusher has a slightly delayed return, as described
above: the watch is nonetheless fully functional in starting, stopping,
and resetting the chronograph.
On a mechanical watch over fifty years old, precision may deviate from
the original: this is normal for a vintage piece and should be expected.
Water resistance: the 70 meters is the 1972 factory specification. At
this age, gaskets and seals cannot be verified or guaranteed.
DO NOT submerge or get wet.
Would you like it serviced by our in-house workshop — including the
pusher mentioned above? Write to us via eBay BEFORE buying:
we will prepare a dedicated listing with the service already included
in the price.
The photographs are of the actual watch, not stock photos, and are part
of the description.
